The Most Beautiful Beaches of Crete

Guide to hidden scenic locations along the Cretan coast
This guide is the result of many “campaigns” of writers in Crete, in search of the secret beaches of the island: almost “hidden” places that can often be reached only on foot, secluded places at the edges of gorges or valleys without tourist infrastructure . For this you will need a good map, mood for adventure, longing to explore the island, as well as the basic equipment and supplies for the inaccessible trails and excursions that are presented.
This guide is aimed primarily at “true travelers”, who prefer to avoid the crowds and do their own thing. So we chose different locations and tried to give all the necessary information to get there. At the same time, our goal was to convey to our readers some of our first impressions when we first discovered these charming places.
Many of the beaches are close to places of historical or religious interest. Thus we occasionally mention the Minoan, Doric, Greek and Roman archeological sites, the churches of the Byzantine period, as well as the fortifications and fortresses that testify to the long period of Venetian rule.
To give a complete picture of the island’s shores, our guide also mentions the “known” beaches, or at least those that are not completely “hidden”.
When we undertook this project, we had no intention of discovering new seaside paradises. Our sole purpose was to simply transfer our own experiences (as enthusiastic travelers) to all those who avoid the “easy” and will never give in to the temptations of commonly organized tourist packages.
